Sonia Sophia Randev is a Sports Agent and Freelance Sports Journalist who runs an award-winning sports consultancy, Slick Sports Consultancy, which specialises in assisting athletes and former athletes with their media, brand partnerships and marketing. She is also a freelance writer for FourFourTwo magazine.

Before becoming a Sports Agent, Sonia had a promising career as a sports journalist who quickly rose up the ranks to become the first and youngest British Asian Woman to hold a position as the sports editor of an independent newspaper. However, her budding career was abruptly halted due to Sonia’s struggles with mental health and alcoholism.

Having overcome both challenges to re-establish her credentials in both the journalism and commercial side of sport, Sonia uses her experience to help others to also find the courage to ask for help with maintaining their mental health and to educate people, particularly women in Asian communities about the value of speaking up to seek help for alcohol addiction.

In this episode of In Her Corner, we talk to Sonia about the invaluable life and professional lessons that she gained from overcoming addiction, the exciting growth of women’s sport and in particular women’s boxing and the importance of creating more opportunities for athletes and women from underrepresented backgrounds to succeed in the sports industry and beyond.
