Louise Savage – Episode 10
Louise Savage has been a sports lawyer for 12 years and the Group General Counsel for Sportfive for the last 18 months. She provides commercial and strategic legal advice on a broad range of events and properties which has seen her advise on Wimbledon, Rugby World Cup, Commonwealth Games and domestic, African and Asian football.
Louise began her sports law career as an in-house lawyer at IMG where she had wanted to work for several years prior to her first day having been first introduced to them whilst running the British Universities Snowsports Championships (during a sabbatical year from her degree). She stayed at IMG for 9 years working across a range of divisions before moving to Lagardère Sports (now Sportfive) to take up the role of UK General Counsel. In March 2019 she was promoted to Group General Counsel where she oversees the global legal department. Following the sale of Sportfive in April 2020 and the relocation of management to Hamburg she will be leaving the company at the end of October 2020.
Louise is fascinated in and motivated by the impact that sports has on society, be that socio-economic or from a health or inclusion perspective. She has two young daughters and is constantly on the look-out for sporting events to take them to in support of the adage, “you can't be what you can't see”. Louise is increasingly aware of her deep rooted sense of equality and is passionate about not only increasing the number of women who start a career working in sport but also creating an environment in which they feel confident about remaining during the entirety of their careers in order to increase representation at senior levels.
In this tenth episode of In Her Corner, we’ll talk to Louise about balancing a high-powered career with motherhood, her three key career defining lessons and challenging negative stereotypes of successful women in the sports industry and beyond.
