Rowena Samarasinhe is a Sports lawyer with a wealth of experience brokering major endorsement and rights acquisition deals initially in football but also in athletics and other Olympic sports. Rowena’s current work sees her representing some of the world’s largest global sports properties and world-renowned athletes. However, Rowena’s true passion lies in the work she has been involved in concerning the evolution of the sports themselves.

Having gained significant experience in event operations, rights acquisitions and sales, tender processes and bid evaluation, Rowena completed an MBA in International Sports Management with a view to developing a business side to her practice. In addition to being a Partner at Level, she also runs her own commercial consultancy, GENSport and sits as a non-executive director for CIMSPA, the professional development body for the UK’s sport and physical activity sector.

Formerly an athlete, Rowena also dedicates her time to changing perceptions within the industry, particularly in terms of improving the representation of women and other minorities working in sport. Her experience both personally and professionally have given her a unique perspective of sport, from grass roots to high performance level with the consideration of players and athletes themselves remaining at the heart of what she does.

In this first ever episode of In Her Corner, we will explore what aspects of Rowena’s professional and personal life have contributed to her becoming a Boardroom Powerhouse as we’ll delve deep into her three career defining experiences and what they have taught her.
