Courtney Carroll Levinsohn – Episode 18
Courtney Carroll Levinsohn is the Founder of Women in Soccer, a new community network united by the inclusive spirit of soccer on a mission to connect ALL women who love the beautiful game. One of Women in Soccer’s key areas of focus is use soccer as a tool for social change in order to connect, inspire and empower women on the field and off. Women in Soccer’s community includes women of all mind and body types, sexual orientations, gender identities, races, religious backgrounds and ethnicities.
Courtney has a wealth of experience working in football as both a player and coach. She was the captain and MVP of the UC Berkeley women’s football team, former head coach of N.Y.A.C. women’s football team and a sports psychologist and founder of the company Growth Through Sport. These days Courtney is using her experience as a local leader bringing more women into the game of football.
In 2018, she executively produced the film Coach to demonstrate how the role of a coach is an archetype for a powerful figure across all cultures, and how the influence of a coach in a young athlete’s life is formative. Through becoming a member of the U.S. Soccer National Women’s Circle, and a host for the Goal 5 (UN Sustainable Development Goal 5: gender equality) roundtable at the annual Beyond Sport House, Courtney has been able to use her film Coach to drive discussions on how we can create more pathways for women and girls through football, whether that be as coaches, athletes and or senior sports business executives. Courtney continues her mission in 2020 with the launch of a full membership programme for Women in Soccer in the US and beyond.
In this episode of In Her Corner we talk to Courtney about Women in Soccer’s mission to connect women through the power of the beautiful game, the importance of media and brands investing in women’s sport in order to help achieve gender equity and the career defining lessons that have made Courtney razor focused on Living in the Solution as a response to today’s present day challenges.
